Can I cook on metal that has been powder coated?

I got a popcorn popper, the type that you put over an open campfire flame. But in the fine print says "not for cooking purposes, for decoration only". elsewhere on box it states metal has powder coated spray paint. If I test for lead and the test is negative, is there any reason I couldnt use this to pop popcorn?
