inch electric range questions

i want to buy a harp. i want a harp that i can take with me, but is not too expensive...i need help?
i want to buy a harp. my target range is under 350 dollars
i doubt that i'd find any good quality harp for under this price, but i don't want a huge harp that costs like 2 grand. i just want a harp that i can carry around with me. like 20 inches long by 30 inches high or something to that nature. i don't want a lap harp. im thinking of a 22 string harp but my main concern is the sound quality and how low and high the notes go. is the C1 octave on a 22 string harp? what is the best size and price for a portable harp? remember, not too small and not too big. i want the best sound and best size
thank you very much
also do electric harps plug up to amps?
im a piano player and i've heard it'll be easier for me to learn to play the harp
thank you
You're right...you won't find a harp of any decent quality for that price. Anything of under $350.00 will be poorly built, and it won't put out good sound. Strings may be of uneven tension; the harp may not be durable due to cheap materials; and it probably won't have sharping levers to allow you to change key.
I strongly recommend that you save up your money to get a decent harp. Anything less will limit your progress as you develop your technique, and you'll really be wasting your money.
I always recommend Dusty Strings harps, as I have had personal experience playing mine for fifteen years now, and I believe DS harps to be the best available in North America. Mine is a 32-string; but they also make a 26-string model, the Ravenna, that is similarly excellent. I'd recommend sharping levers on all the strings; you can have that one for about a thousand dollars. I've included the link to the Dusty Strings Ravenna 26 page.
Oh, and about amps...I have a quarter-inch jack pickup inside the soundbox, stuck to the back of the soundboard. I usually only use it to plug in my tuner, but I have amped the harp that way, and it's the best place to mic the harp when I'm recording. But my preference is to play completely unplugged--harps are really not designed to punch through crowd noise, and I'm of the opinion that any place where I have to do that is not a good place for me to be playing in the first place.
You're welcome to drop me an e-mail if I can be of further help.
