electrical stove top burners pros and cons

replacing the element...and the burner...on an electric stove?
Never had an electric stove before...so one of the burners, when I opened up the top, basically fell apart...the contraption that connects the wires to the connector that the element plugs into...so, I am wondering...can I fix that myself? Any more difficult than wiring a lamp, which I can do? Or is it best to have an electrical person do that? Figure I might replace another one as well...dont really want to fry myself...thanks!
You can Handel this if you can wire a lamp. Start by killing power. If wire insulation is OK and long enough just replace the end terminals and put them back on the element. If the element screws are bad go ahead and replace it too. There is a part number on the element some place unless it "cooked off" when the element went bad. If this happened you can take it to the appliance parts store and your range model number and most likely they will have a replacement.
If your wiring insulation is bad tell the appliance parts person you want some range wire to rewire the element range. It will be the correct size and It has special silicone insulation and is made for high temperature. If the wire has to be replaced all way back to the switch run new wire as close to possible to the route the old was so it wont have hot spots, kinks, and be reasonable in length.
